The new semester has started and we’re super excited for this upcoming school year. From new classes and friends, to amazing opportunities that our University offers, there are many amazing ways to make the most of your days at Nevada. In case you haven’t found ways to get involved this semester, ASUN’s here to help! Here’s a list of five ways you can get involved on campus!
Volunteering is one of the best ways to help out, show that you care about others, and just feel great overall. There are so many volunteering opportunities on or around campus. Working with organizations such as Path to Independence, which works with students with intellectual disabilities and helps them obtain a University Diploma, is a great way to serve the community. Also, larger community volunteering opportunities are available with organizations such as Catholic Charities or the Northern Nevada Food Bank. In addition to these different organizations, there are many other interesting organizations with volunteering opportunities to help you get involved. Regardless of whether you choose to volunteer on or off campus, you will have an amazing opportunity to make a positive impact on someone’s life. 2. Join Clubs
Joining a club is a great way to to become an active citizen on campus. You can meet friends, have fun doing what you love, explore new interests, and help the community through club involvement. Whether you’re a pre-med or a journalism major, there’s a club out there for everyone. A current listing of clubs can be found here.
3. Attend Events
Nevada offers many different types of events on campus throughout the semester. From movies out on the lawn in front of the Joe to Smart Talks that discuss popular or even controversial topics in politics, economics, etc., everyone is sure to find something that interests them. Events are a great opportunity to meet and connect with people with similar interests. 4. Look for Possible Internships
Internships are a great opportunity for students to gain experience in their fields of interest. Try to reach out to local employers or professionals in your field to secure an internship opportunity. These can go a long way in creating a stronger more diverse social network and setting yourself up for success in the long run. Additionally, interacting with career professionals can give you the specific tricks and tips that can set you apart from the competition for the future. 5. Find a Job
It’s always a good idea to have some extra cash during the school year. The Career Studio is here to make finding a job a lot easier for students. Students can browse the latest on or off campus job openings, you can upload your resume, and send in your application directly to the employer.
