Event: "Ask a ____"
Location: Joe Theatre
Description: This event will feature a panel of people from very different circumstances and backgrounds. Audience members will have the opportunity to interact with the panelists by asking them questions based on each of their unique situations. The purpose of this panel is to demonstrate an environment where it is acceptable to have a discussion on controversial topics.
Event: Holocaust Remembrance
Location: Wells Fargo Auditorium
Description: The Holocaust was a time where thousands of Jewish populations were placed into concentration camps. This continues to be a crucial component of our world's history. Join us as we remember.
Location: Starbucks in the Joe
Description: Everyone has secrets, desires, hopes, and dreams. On a lighter note, people also have humorous stories as well. Come listen to our reading of postcards that were submitted anonymously throughout our university community. This reading promotes acceptance and empowerment to both the readers and those select few who were courageous enough to send in their secret. We will have an afternoon of readings and an open mic for those poets and musicians out there.
Event: From Gangster to Doctor
Time: Book Signing from 5:00-6:30, speaking engagement at 7pm in Ballroom A
Description: First impressions are not always what they seem. What are the odds that a gang member will one day earn his PHD? Well, Victor Rios sure broke that stereotype when he earned his PHD and became a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Come hear Dr. Rios speak about how he went from a former gang member to a doctor and all the challenges that came with that endeavor. Don't miss your chance to meet him at his book signing which will be in the Wolfshop before the event!
Event: Holi Festival of Color
Location: Manzanita Bowl
Description: Come join us at Holi, where we will provide the paint and all you need to do is bring your friends and family to come celebrate this traditional Indian Festival of Color. Holi traditionally celebrates spring and a prosperous harvest for the upcoming year. We will also have a henna booth where you can get an intricate henna tattoo, delicious Indian food, a tie dye t-shirt booth, and spray your friends with handfuls upon handfuls of paint.
Event: Diversity Leadership Conference
Time: Registration begins at 8:30am, event begins at 9:30am
Location: the Joe Student Union
Description: Nevada Students: The ASUN Unity Department is holding their Diversity Leadership Conference on Saturday, April 14th in the Joe Crowley Student Union. Lunch will be provided and registration is free for university students. The purpose of this one-day conference is to develop leadership skills focusing on diversity to build a greater understanding among our University community.
Along with some great workshops led by faculty, staff, and students, we are bringing Youtube musician AJ Rafael as our keynote speaker/performer. We are excited and privileged to bring AJ Rafael to our campus this year. AJ performs at numerous venues and events throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Australia, and Austria. With his musical talent, he developed a benefit show called Music Speaks, which supports families affected with autism. Today, he has over 360,000 subscribers and has partnered with Youtube. His music has even charted on the Billboard Charts and has reached over 40 million views on the music he shares via Youtube. AJ will perform his music and speak about his experience in the music industry along with any adversities that came with it, along with his deep passion for his musical pursuit. After his session, we will be holding a meet and greet session with him!
